These are a collection of images taken from my last few years photographing Recess Parties,

Shot largely on 35mm film, I feel extremely fortunate to be capturing this specific slice of contemporary Black British Party culture.

I think about this work as a meditation on black youth; its relationship with fashion, attraction and joy. Something that, in time, will provide context to people saying “You just had to be there.”

Captured between in London, Margate and Paris, these images also give insight into the way in which Black British culture which is often prescribed to the borders of the M25 has spilled out not just to the surrounding cities but around the globe.
